2013 International Games in Guanacaste, Costa Rica

(January 02 - 09, 2013) - Costa Rica event will be taking place from January 2nd - 9th, 2013. This will be taking place at the Riu Guanacaste, a 5 star all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste. It is located just 30 minutes from the Liberia airport. The competition will have competitors ranging from the ages of 4-50 years of age and all ranks will be present. Divisions include forms, weapons, sparring, open musical forms and weapons, synchronized as well as chanbara. The International Games will be a high energy event with many talented martial artists competing.

Medal Count & Results

On Wednesday January 2nd, 2013, the Canadian National Martial Arts Team travelled to Costa Rica to compete in the 5th annual International Games hosted by the International Congress of Martial Arts. The Team did a fantastic job, competing in divisions such as traditional forms and weapons, sparring, extreme martial arts, chanbara, and synchronized. Team Canada had competitors ranging from the ages of 4 to 50, each competitor held ranks between white to black belt. Final results from the competition included 60 Gold, 60 Silver, 56 Bronze out of 77 divisions. It also included 1 MVP, Kate Slater of Shamuon Generation of Martial Arts (Waterloo) a. Highest honours from the competition go to the 3 Triple Crown Black belts (a triple crown is when a single competitor wins 3 gold medals in various divisions) which went to Julian Shamuon of Shamuon Generation of Martial Arts (Waterloo)- This is Julian's 10th Triple Crown win with Team Canada, Silvana Shamuon of Shamuon Generation of Martial Arts (Waterloo)- This is Silvana's 9th Triple Crown win with Team Canada, and Amanda Atkins of Shamuon Generation of Martial Arts (Waterloo) winning her first Triple Crown. The team will be getting together to celebrate the accomplishments and start on their next journey to the 2014 International Games in February.
